Happy Dog Mom Day, Dog mamas!

In addition to Mothers Day this month, National Dog Moms Day is May 14 and we’re celebrating! Our lovable mutts are such big parts of our families, and as such, there are a lot of dog moms out there who should be enjoying a little pampering as we acknowledge the roles they play in keeping our family pets happy and healthy.

We’ve come up with a few ways you can make your favorite dog mama feel special this month:

Make a donation to an animal aid organization on her behalf –
If she’s an animal lover, chances are there’s more than one organization she’d love to support.  If you need an idea, we suggest our Brooklyn community partner organization, Positive Tails. VERG works together with Positive Tails to improve animal and community welfare in New York City by funding medical care for abused animals, assisting families who cannot afford medical treatment for their sick or injured pets, and working to reduce the population of unwanted dogs and cats. Because Positive Tails is a non-profit organization, we rely solely on donations to continue the mission of providing access to life saving veterinary care and to enhance and preserve the quality of life for the animals and people we help.

Support an Artist –
Some very talented artists hang out on sites such as Etsy, and offer the opportunity to take photos of your pet and create one-of-a-kind custom art pieces.  In addition, if you’re a fan of a certain breed, there are a plethora of creative breed-specific options out there from artists like Pipsqueak Productions. These pre-crafted pieces can be printed on things like hats, tshirts, mugs and mousepads to name a few.

Plan a dog-friendly brunch –
Our city offers an amazing array of dog-friendly bistros and dining options that can treat both mom and pup. There are almost 200 pet-friendly restaurants in Brooklyn that welcome dogs at their outdoor tables. Need help finding the perfect spot? Check out BringFido.com

We love seeing what our community dog lovers are up to this Dog Moms Day! Use #VERGBrooklynDogMoms to share pictures of her and her dog on social media.
