VERG Welcomes Our New Cardiologist
Andrea Lantis, DVM, Diplomate ACVIM (Cardiology)

Originally from Oregon, Andrea attended Willamette University in Salem, Oregon where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology in 1997 and then Oregon State University College of Veterinary Medicine earning her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. She completed a rotating internship at the Oregon State University in 2005, and a three-year residency in Cardiology at North Carolina State University, where she was awarded the resident research award by the American College of Internal Medicine in Cardiology her final year of her residency. In 2009, she earned her Diplomate status in cardiology.
Upon completion of her residency, Andrea spent two years in Blacksburg, Virginia where she was an assistant professor of cardiology at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, and has had the opportunity to speak nationally and internationally.
Professionally, Andrea has a special interest in management of congestive heart failure, advanced imaging techniques, and interventional cardiology. In her spare time she enjoys traveling, cooking, and the performing arts, as well as spending time with her husband, family and friends. She also enjoys time with her two beautiful Golden Retrievers exploring the city as well as relaxing with her two cats.
Kara Sessums DVM, Diplomate ACVIM (Neurology)
Specializing in Neurology & Neurosurgery

Dr. Sessums graduated from Texas A&M University in May of 2000. After graduation, she worked as an emergency and critical care veterinarian in the Dallas area for three years. Dr. Sessums completed an internship in neurology and neurosurgery at the Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center in 2004. She then went to the University of Florida’s College of Veterinary Medicine for a Neurology residency. Her residency training was completed at Animal Neurology and Neurosurgery of Texas in 2007 where she gained additional neurosurgical training.
Dr. Sessums spent two years practicing neurology and neurosurgery in Colorado before moving to Brooklyn in 2009. Her professional interests include medical treatment of refractory epilepsy, intracranial surgery and new therapies for granulomatous meningoencephalitis (GME). She is a proud parent of two cats, a golden retriever mix and one human infant. On her days off, she can be found running across the Brooklyn Bridge and through lower Manhattan with her daughter in the jogging stroller.
